BEMÆRK: Ansøgningsfristen er overskredet

The Department of Ecoscience (ECOS), Aarhus University, is looking for an international specialist consultant to coordinate waterfowl monitoring in general and geese in particular. We hope to fill the position by January 15, 2024 or as soon as possible thereafter.

Expected start date and duration

This is a permanent, full time position.

Job description

The successful applicant will be responsible for handling the international coordination of waterfowl monitoring across Europe, especially of goose populations, and maintaining contact with an international network of specialists and managers under the auspices of the European Goose Management Platform (EGMP) under the African Eurasian Waterbird Agreement (AEWA)(see https://egmp.aewa.info/). The position requires participation in the existing program, but also the initiation of new research, monitoring and advisory projects in relation to species monitoring, population dynamics and ecology within the EGMP. The applicant must be willing to participate in a team and shall, in collaboration with other employees, actively plan monitoring programs, organize databases and report to international and national fora, as well as be involved in the work of developing the concept of adaptive management (see CAN's website at https://projects.au.dk/can/). In the longer term, the applicant is expected to independently initiate and develop waterbird population models and implement adaptive management in a broader context. We are looking for an open and accommodating person with a creative approach to solving challenging tasks. The candidate will be a member of the Wildlife Ecology Section and will work closely with the EGMP Secretariat at AEWA as well as other international partners.

ECOS employees contribute to a number of key monitoring and research projects with Danish and foreign partners within the EGMP. The applicant will therefore be part of a professionally challenging and inspiring environment, in a role that offers great opportunities to establish or expand existing collaborative relationships with other research environments at home and abroad. The successful applicant will also have exciting opportunities to contribute to the development of the interdisciplinary collaboration within ECOS, thereby strengthening the ECOS knowledge base to provide professional advice on adaptive nature management.
