Prof. Alexander N. Zelikin and the Medicinal Polymer Chemistry lab at the Department of Chemistry, Aarhus University, is seeking a candidate for a short-term fulltime Research Assistant position.

The position is focused on polymer synthesis, specifically the design of poly(disulfides) based on renewable resources.

The position is available from November 15th, 2023 until July 1st, 2024.


Job description


The project pursues the design of poly(disulfides) for diverse applications, biomedical and/or every- day use of plastics. We aim to design these polymers using renewable, possibly natural starting materials and achieve polymer recycling back to the monomers.


Your profile


The successful applicant has a track-record in polymer chemistry and polymer analyses, preferably experience in ring opening polymerization of cyclic disulfides, and preferably with prior knowledge on mechanochemical methods of polymerization. Excellence in the use of gel permeation chromatography is essential.

The Department of Chemistry at Aarhus University (www.chem.au.dk) is one of the leading European chemistry departments with a broad research programs. It has a permanent staff of ~30 full and associate professors, a support-staff of ~30 people, ~150 PhD-students and postdocs and around 500 students.

The Zelikin lab is an international research group focused on diverse aspects of biomedicine, including the chemistry of prodrugs, biomaterials, and chemical biology. Our team is dynamic and interdisciplinary. The laboratory is well equipped to perform all the syntheses, characterization, and cell culture evaluation of the synthesized compounds.

Deadline

Applications must be received no later than September 28th, 2023.


Application procedure

Short-listing is used. This means that after the deadline for applications – and with the assistance from the assessment committee chairman, and the assessment committee if necessary, – the head of department selects the candidates to be evaluated. The selection is made on the basis of an assessment of who of the candidates are most relevant considering the requirements of the advertisement. All applicants will be notified within 6 weeks whether or not their applications have been sent to an expert assessment committee for evaluation. The selected applicants will be informed about the composition of the committee and will receive his/her assessment. Once the recruitment process is completed a final letter of rejection is sent to the deselected applicants.

Formalities and salary range

Natural Sciences refers to the Ministerial Order on the Appointment of Academic Staff at Danish Universities under the Danish Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation.

The application must be in English and include a curriculum vitae, degree certificate, a complete list of publications, a statement of future research plans and information about research activities, teaching portfolio and verified information on previous teaching experience (if any). Appointment shall be in accordance with the collective labour agreement between the Danish Ministry of Taxation and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. Salary depends on seniority as agreed between the Danish Ministry of Taxation and the Confederation of Professional Associations.
