The Center for Quantitative Genetics and Genomics (QGG), Aarhus University is currently seeking two motivated Postdocs to join our dynamic team and contribute to our ongoing projects in the areas of genetic analysis and breeding value estimation in cattle. The positions are for 3 years and begins on 1 January 2024 or as soon as possible thereafter.
 

The position

The QGG is at the forefront of research in genetic analysis and breeding value estimation. QGG has a number of ongoing projects on methane emission and feed efficiency traits in dairy cattle with the aim to include these traits in routine genetic evaluation. The primary research task will be genetic analysis of methane and feed efficiency data for estimation of genetic parameters and prediction of breeding values to be included in the breeding goal of dairy cattle. The candidates will work in the ongoing projects with QGG colleagues and external collaborators.
 

The candidate must have

  • Ph.D. degree in quantitative genetics, animal breeding, statistics, or a related field.
  • Proficiency in statistical analysis of genetic data and the ability to develop genetic models.
  • Experience with one or more scripting languages, such as R, Python, or Perl.
  • A proven track record of scientific writing, demonstrated by journal publications.
  • Excellent communication skills to collaborate effectively with industry stakeholders.
 

Successful candidates will be expected to

  • Work on ongoing projects related to methane emission and feed efficiency traits at QGG.
  • Contribute to the advancement of genetic models and trait definitions.
  • Produce innovative research of international standard.
  • Publish high-quality research in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Collaborate with a diverse group of researchers both locally and internationally.
  • Engage with partners in commercial breeding organizations.
 

Who we are

The Center for Quantitative Genetics and Genomics (QGG) is a vibrant and exciting interdisciplinary center for research and education in quantitative genetics and quantitative genomics. QGG has an international environment with 70 employees and visiting researchers from more than 22 countries. We perform basic and applied research within plant, livestock and human quantitative genetics. Our focus areas include quantitative genetics, artificial intelligence applied to agriculture and precision medicine, population genetics, and integrative genomics. QGG is located at the central campus in Aarhus and at the AU Flakkebjerg campus in newly renovated offices with well-developed research infrastructure, laboratories, equipment, and high-performing computing clusters.

Application procedure

Shortlisting is used. This means that after the deadline for applications – and with the assistance from the assessment committee chairman, and the appointment committee if necessary, – the head of department selects the candidates to be evaluated. All applicants will be notified whether or not their applications have been sent to an expert assessment committee for evaluation. The selected applicants will be informed about the composition of the committee, and each applicant is given the opportunity to comment on the part of the assessment that concerns him/her self. Once the recruitment process is completed a final letter of rejection is sent to the deselected applicants.

Formalities and salary range

Technical Sciences refers to the Ministerial Order on the Appointment of Academic Staff at Danish Universities under the Danish Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation.

The application must be in English and include a curriculum vitae, degree certificate, a complete list of publications, a statement of future research plans and information about research activities, teaching portfolio and verified information on previous teaching experience (if any). Appointment shall be in accordance with the collective labour agreement between the Danish Ministry of Taxation and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. Salary depends on seniority as agreed between the Danish Ministry of Taxation and the Confederation of Professional Associations.
