BEMÆRK: Ansøgningsfristen er overskredet

The Department of Biological Chemical Engineering, Aarhus University, invites applicants for a two-year postdoc position within the field of power-to-X related to the production of sustainable aviation fuel.

The deadline for the application will be 25 October, 2023. The position is available from 15 January 2024 or as soon as possible hereafter.

Your place of work will be the Aarhus University Energy Research Facility located at AU Campus Viborg (  https://dca.au.dk/en/about-dca/au-foulum)

Expected start date and duration of employment

This is a two–year position from 15 January, 2024 or as soon possible.

The Research Project

You will be part of the research and development project “FrontFuel: Sustainable aviation fuel to implement green transition”, a large-scale collaboration between Aarhus University and world-leading companies Topsoe and Sasol.

The project will develop knowledge and technology that enables efficient production of sustainable aviation fuel from CO2.
You will be working with integration of jet-fuel synthesis through Fischer-Tropsch at a biogas plant. Your main task will therefore be operation of bioreactors and their integration with state-of-the-art chemical synthesis technology. As part of this, you will be working in close collaboration with both university and company researchers. Since this project is truly interdisciplinary, a background in both microbiology, chemistry, and engineering, or something in-between is of relevance.

Your profile

The ideal candidate holds a PhD in biological, chemical or process engineering and will furthermore have expertize or hands-on experience with:

  • Handling of reactor setups (lab- or pilot-scale)
  • Biological or chemical CO2 conversion
  • Operation and maintenance of control systems and sensors
  • Gas-liquid mass transfer concepts
  • Gas chromatography
  • Excellence in both written and spoken English
You will be working as part of a large research and development project and you are therefore expected to be a team player that can ensure smooth integration of your ideas into a complex context.
You will furthermore be part of the research group “Microbial Conversion Technologies” which includes researchers of different scientific and cultural background. As a group member you will be expected to contribute to student co-supervision, teaching and day-to-day work of the group.
