Applications are invited for a tenure-track researcher position in the field of Agricultural Emissions at the Department of Biological and Chemical Engineering, Aarhus University, Denmark. The position has a specific focus on the application of advanced micrometeorological methods for challenging and complex emission sources.
The successful candidate will take part in developing the activities of the department within measurement methods and mitigation tools for gaseous emissions from agricultural production facilities and fields. The tasks include cutting-edge research within methodologies and documentations systems combined with the affiliated public sector consultancy to the Danish government and will target mitigation and measurement of ammonia, greenhouse gases and other volatile compounds from agricultural sources.

Job description
- You will be contributing to developing the research area of advanced measurement methods for agricultural emissions with a strong focus on methods for complex sources of primarily greenhouse gas and ammonia emissions, including micrometeorological methods. The job requires international collaboration on e.g. validation and measurement protocols. It is expected that over time you will develop a research group that builds on the strong position of the department in this area and that you will develop research activities aiming at new waste and fertilizer streams derived from green transition of agriculture and food production in a circular bioeconomy.
- As a part of this position, you will be involved in public advisory service to the Danish government in the field of agricultural emissions and emission mitigation.
Your profile
Applicants should hold a PhD in a relevant field.
The applicant should have competences and experience within:
- Development and application of state-of-the-art methods for gaseous emissions from open sources. Preferably, this includes online measurement techniques.
- Micrometeorological methods and instrumentation
- Measurement methodology based on inverse dispersion modelling
- Planning and execution of field campaigns
- Publication of results in recognized scientific publications
- Public Sector Consultancy within agricultural emissions. This includes communication of research to non-scientific stakeholders
- Collaboration with technicians and coordination of experimental field work
- Intercomparison of field measurement methods including international campaigns
- Handling and analysis of complex data sets
- Being fluent in Danish (written and oral) is considered an advantage

The Department of Biological and Chemical Engineering work with water, energy, food and industrial biotechnology, agriculture and health engineering sciences and therefore has an established academic foundation providing knowledge and education for the green transition of society. Both biotechnological and physicochemical solutions are here combined in solving environmental, energy and climate challenges on a global scale. Research and innovation are almost entirely conducted in collaboration together with the public sector and private companies.
The successful applicant will be affiliated with the Section of Environmental Engineering, which is primarily targeting water and air pollution as well as GHG emissions and we use a combination of advanced analytical characterization methods, process engineering and modelling tools to analyze environmental challenges and develop solutions for implementation in industrial and public facilities. Application procedure
Shortlisting is used. This means that after the deadline for applications – and with the assistance from the assessment committee chairman, and the assessment committee if necessary, – the head of department selects the candidates to be evaluated. The selection is made on the basis of an assessment of who of the candidates are most relevant considering the requirements of the advertisement. All applicants will be notified within 6 weeks whether or not their applications have been sent to an expert assessment committee for evaluation. The selected applicants will be informed about the composition of the committee and will receive his/her assessment. Once the recruitment process is completed a final letter of rejection is sent to the deselected applicants.

Formalities and salary range
Technical Sciences refers to the Ministerial Order on the Appointment of Academic Staff at Danish Universities under the Danish Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation.
The application must be in English and include a curriculum vitae, degree certificate, a complete list of publications, a statement of future research plans and information about research activities, teaching portfolio and verified information on previous teaching experience (if any). Appointment shall be in accordance with the collective labour agreement between the Danish Ministry of Taxation and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. Salary depends on seniority as agreed between the Danish Ministry of Taxation and the Confederation of Professional Associations.
