The Department of Biomedicine at Faculty of Health at Aarhus University invites applications for a position as a Laboratory Technician within Biomedicine/Cell Biology of cardiac and skeletal muscles as per 1 January 2024 or as soon as possible thereafter. The position is a fixed-term full-time position.

Your job responsibilities

As Laboratory Technician, your primary tasks are laboratory work, which contributes to the completion of a project that seeks to develop and validate an antibody for biomarker discovery. In addition, you may help in the overall functionality of the laboratory through performing administrative duties (e.g. assisting in the purchase of lab consumables, organisation of biobank specimens), helping students, and assisting in the set-up and execution of experimental protocols in the laboratory. In your daily work, you have a close interaction with competent colleagues, and pursue many different tasks. You will be an integral part of a very motivated and social research team.
 
Your main tasks will consist of:

  • Development and validation of antibodies directed against posttranslational modifications in a cardiac protein for future biomarker discovery
  • Research support of related experiments that test antibodies in ELISA assays

In addition, you may be asked to help with the following:
  • Helping students and postdocs in the lab
  • Development and execution of research protocols within the field of biomedicine
  • Cell culture work on cell lines and primary cells
  • Supportive work with animal models of disease
  • Administrative responsibilities (e.g. assist in the purchase of consumables; help in lab organisation)
  • Handling of safety and environmental issues related to the lab

You will report to the Head of Department Thomas G. Jensen.

Your competences

You have a background within biomedical research, genetics, molecular biology, biochemistry and/or cell biology. Experience in working with animals, cell culture and standard methods in molecular biology and biochemistry, physiology and/or bioinformatical analysis will be considered an advantage, as are work experience working with muscle cell lines and primary cells. We expect you to be motivated, willing to learn and to thrive in a motivated working environment that pursues to find novel insights into molecular mechanisms underlying human skeletal myopathies, cardiovascular and cardiometabolic diseases.

As a person, you have good interpersonal skills, are inclusive and team-oriented and able to contribute to a good work environment.

We expect you to be fluent in oral and written English.

Your main place of work will be the Department of Biomedicine, The Skou Building, Høegh-Guldbergs Gade 10, DK-8000 Aarhus C, Denmark. Some tasks will take place in the Steno Diabetes Center, Aarhus Universitetshospital, Palle Juul-Jensens Boulevard 11, Indgang A, 8200 Aarhus N, Denmark.

We expect to conduct interviews between mid-November 2023 and early December 2023.

You may be given a case in connection with the interviews. Shortlisting of candidates will be used.

Terms of employment and pay are regulated by the collective agreement between the Ministry of Taxation and the Organisations of Public Employees – Denmark (OAO) or The Danish confederation of public employees of 2010.
