BEMÆRK: Ansøgningsfristen er overskredet

Applicants are invited for a PhD fellowship/scholarship at Graduate School of Technical Sciences, Aarhus University, Denmark, within the Biological and Chemical Engineering programme. The position is available from 1 February 2024 or later. You can submit your application via the link under 'how to apply'.

Title
Biological Production of Liquefied Biogas from Renewable Electricity

Research area and project description
You will be part of the project “PowerLBG: Development of power-to-gas technology for production of liquefied biogas for the transport sector”. The project consists of both academic and industrial partners and is funded by MissionGreenFuels.
For the position, you will use your expertise in microbiology or engineering to develop solutions for converting CO2 from biogas plants to liquefied natural gas. The main part of your work will be focused on microbial conversion of CO2 and renewable hydrogen (H2) to biomethane using bioreactors. Your work will here form one of the cornerstones in designing a process chain for production of liquefied natural gas from biogas and renewable electricity.
Project description. For technical reasons, you must upload a project description. Please simply copy the project description above and upload it as a PDF in the application.

Qualifications and specific competences
The ideal candidate has a relevant Masters’ degree in process engineering, microbiology, biological- or chemical engineering, or has in other ways worked with bioprocesses in technical systems.

The project uniquely includes experimental activities at both laboratory-, pilot- and full-scale. The ideal candidate therefore has expertize or hands-on experience with different aspects related to this:

  • Experimental work with bioreactors (lab- or pilot-scale)
  • Experience with energy and mass balances
  • Analytical techniques for gasses and liquids
  • Excellence in both written and spoken English

The experimental data you provide will be used by other project partners for data and process modelling. Some experience with computational modelling will therefore be of relevance. As part of the activities on modelling, the PhD project will include a research stay at University of Queensland, Australia.
You will be a key player in the project consortium, which consists of two universities and four companies. The ability to convey your scientific results to these partners and other stakeholders is therefore of importance, as is any previous experience from industry.
You will be working in the research group “Microbial Conversion Technologies” as part of the Dept. of Biological & Chemical Engineering. As a group member you will be expected to be a team player, where you contribute to student co-supervision, teaching and day-to-day work of the group.
