Applications are invited to apply for a tenure-track assistant professor position in the field of Environmental Process Modelling at the Department of Biological and Chemical Engineering, Aarhus University, Denmark. The position will focus on modelling emission of greenhouse gases and other compounds from agriculture, including emission from manure management.
The successful candidate will carry out research activities on gaseous emission from agricultural and other sources. The candidate should be able to combine experimental results and models to develop new insights and tools for research, policy, and management. Position tasks include cutting-edge research on model development and application, combined with teaching at the bachelor and master levels and contributions to governmental advisory service.

Job description
The successful candidate will develop and lead a research group on the development and application of models for gaseous emission from agricultural sources and teach related courses. Tasks will include:
- Development and application of emission models that include essential physical, chemical, and biological processes
- Use of emission measurements to develop, improve, and evaluate models
- Design and management of experiments for generation of emission measurements
- Collaboration within the university and with other universities or institutions
- Teaching in environmental process modelling and related courses run by the department, including development of new courses
- Completion of science-based advisory tasks for the Danish government in the field of agricultural emissions and emission mitigation
Your profile
Applicants should hold a PhD in Environmental Engineering or a related field. Competences must include:
- Quantitative understanding of basic production and transport processes (physical, chemical, biological) that drive emission from organic wastes
- Development and application of models on emission of greenhouse gases or other pollutants from waste
- Design and execution of experiments on emission from organic wastes
- Publication of results in high-quality peer-reviewed papers in recognized scientific journals
- Programming in R, Python, Matlab, C++ or similar languages
- Data handling, analysis, and presentation
- Basic knowledge of agricultural practices and technologies related to mitigation of gas emission from manure management
Additional competencies are not required but are desired:
- Application of experimental results for parameter estimation or model evaluation
- Previous public advisory work on agricultural emissions, including communication of research to non-scientific stakeholders
- Handling and analysis of large complex data sets (e.g., dynamic emission data, multiple data sources, multiple variables)
- Written and oral fluency in Danish for advisory services to the Danish authorities and other national tasks

Application procedure
Shortlisting is used. This means that after the deadline for applications – and with the assistance from the assessment committee chairman, and the assessment committee if necessary, – the head of department selects the candidates to be evaluated. The selection is made on the basis of an assessment of who of the candidates are most relevant considering the requirements of the advertisement. All applicants will be notified within 6 weeks whether or not their applications have been sent to an expert assessment committee for evaluation. The selected applicants will be informed about the composition of the committee and will receive his/her assessment. Once the recruitment process is completed a final letter of rejection is sent to the deselected applicants.

Formalities and salary range
Technical Sciences refers to the Ministerial Order on the Appointment of Academic Staff at Danish Universities under the Danish Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation.
The application must be in English and include a curriculum vitae, degree certificate, a complete list of publications, a statement of future research plans and information about research activities, teaching portfolio and verified information on previous teaching experience (if any). Appointment shall be in accordance with the collective labour agreement between the Danish Ministry of Taxation and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. Salary depends on seniority as agreed between the Danish Ministry of Taxation and the Confederation of Professional Associations.
