A 2 year position as postdoctoral fellow in the laboratory of Prof. Poul Nissen at the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics, Aarhus University, is available from October 1st, 2023, or as soon as possible thereafter.
The research project will be focused on the role of Sortilin-related CNS-expressed receptor 2 (SorCS2) in synaptic plasticity, implicated in memory formation. Single-particle Cryo-EM studies on SorCS2 complexes with various neurotrophins/neuroreceptors will be crucial for the characterisation and localisation of SorCS2 complexes in tomograms of hippocampal neurons/synaptosomes from mutant and wild-type mice. The aim of the research project is to elucidate the molecular mechanism behind specific neurological and psychological disorders, and neurodegenerative diseases associated with impairment of synaptic plasticity.
Expected start date and duration of employment
This is a 2-year position available from October 1st, 2023, or as soon as possible there after.
The position will have a main focus on continuation of ongoing single-particle cryo-EM studies of SorCS2 complexes with various neurotrophins/neuroreceptors.
The position will involve teamwork, project reporting, and project supervision and teaching for PhD and MSc students on cryo-EM structure determination of membrane proteins and functional and biophysical assays for transport ATPase, as well as assistance in grant applications and preparation of publications.
Your profile
The candidate must present a significant experience and strong track record in mammalian membrane protein purification, single-particle cryo-EM sample preparation and data analysis, as well as experience in biochemical assays for the functional characterization of transport ATPases.
Applicants should hold a PhD in molecular biology or similar.
The successful candidate must have a keen interest in teaching, dissemination and supervision besides a strong drive for science and research.

Shortlisting is used. This means that after the deadline for applications – and with the assistance from the assessment committee chairman, and the appointment committee if necessary, – the head of department selects the candidates to be evaluated.
