The Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics, Aarhus University, invites applications for a 4-year assistant professorship position offering applicants an exciting opportunity to join a research programme on membrane transporters and receptors of importance in health and disease of the brain.



Expected start date and duration of employment

This is a 4–year position from 01 Feb 2024 or as soon as possible thereafter.

Job description

  • For joint research, the candidate will be working primarily with investigations of structure and mechanism of membrane transporters and receptors, in particular P-type ATPases and Na+ dependent neurotransmitter and amino acid transporters.

  • The candidate will be involved in managing lab facilities.

  • The candidate is expected to participate in Aarhus University’s pedagogical program.

  • The candidate will be involved in project co-supervision of PhD students and can act as the main supervisor of bachelor students, project students and master students.

  • The activities will be in coordination with technical and administrative support staff on a daily basis, and with other Principal Investigators at the department on a regular basis.

  • Along with the joint research, the position also provides the opportunity to develop an own line of independent research.

  • Along with research, teaching obligations will also be a part of the position.



Your profile

  • Applicants should hold a PhD in molecular biology, biochemistry, biophysics, neurobiology or similar and preferably have experience with membrane protein structural biology.

  • Experience with membrane protein expression and purification based on mammalian cell lines.

  • Experience with studies of membrane proteins using structural biology, biochemistry, and biophysics.

  • Publication record that shows proof of expertise and research aims

  • Experience with student supervision

  • Collaboration and management skills

  • Communication and language skills to interact with a large and diverse research laboratory.

  • Personal skills and ambition to develop an academic career track.



Who we are

Situated in a newly renovated laboratory complex within the central campus of Aarhus University, The Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics comprises a vibrant research and education environment. The department currently has 75 full time scientific staff, 95 PhD students and a yearly uptake of around 120 students housed in the same building ensuring a lively setting.
 
The department has access to state-of-the-art core facilities, including FACS, Bioimaging, CryoEM and Biophysics cores.

Application procedure

Shortlisting is used. This means that after the deadline for applications – and with the assistance from the assessment committee chairman, and the assessment committee if necessary, – the head of department selects the candidates to be evaluated. The selection is made on the basis of an assessment of who of the candidates are most relevant considering the requirements of the advertisement. All applicants will be notified within 6 weeks whether or not their applications have been sent to an expert assessment committee for evaluation. The selected applicants will be informed about the composition of the committee and will receive his/her assessment. Once the recruitment process is completed a final letter of rejection is sent to the deselected applicants.

Formalities and salary range

Natural Sciences refers to the Ministerial Order on the Appointment of Academic Staff at Danish Universities under the Danish Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation.

The application must be in English and include a curriculum vitae, degree certificate, a complete list of publications, a statement of future research plans and information about research activities, teaching portfolio and verified information on previous teaching experience (if any). Appointment shall be in accordance with the collective labour agreement between the Danish Ministry of Taxation and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. Salary depends on seniority as agreed between the Danish Ministry of Taxation and the Confederation of Professional Associations.
