Title
Impacts and adaptation of the Danish and Chinese crop-ping systems to extreme weather events and projected climate

Research area and project description
Climate change is projected to impact and disrupt food systems and therefore food security. In addition, climate change and extreme events strain the environmental sustainability of current agronomic management as well as the efficient use of water and nutrient.

Northern latitudes (e.g. Baltic area and North China Plain) can be key areas holding potential to become a relevant global food basket. However, questions are still unanswered regarding on how to exploit some beneficial impacts of climate change while minimizing environmental im-pacts in terms of nitrogen leaching and greenhouse gas emission.

Adaptation options (agronomic, genetics, socio-economics) play a big role in ensuring economic and environmental sustainability for farmers. Therefore, the proposed PhD student will explore and quantify impacts of climate change on crop production in China and Denmark and the role of adaptation in optimizing the trade-off between economic and environmental sustainability.

The candidate is expected to spend one year in the host Chinese institution
