The Department of Biomedicine at Faculty of Health at Aarhus University invites applications for a position as Postdoc in the field of inflammation and cardiometabolic disease as per May 1, 2024 or as soon as possible thereafter. The position is a fixed-term full-time position for 24 months.

About the research project
Cardiometabolic disease is driven by inflammation, particularly in the adipose tissue. Inflammation consists of the initial acute phase, followed by a resolving phase. Our research focuses on the investigation of specialized pro-resolving lipid mediators and their ability to promote cardiometabolic health in obesity. We use a translational approach to identify traits underlying the resolution potential in patients.
Your job responsibilities
As Postdoc in inflammation and cardiometabolic disease your position is primarily research-based but may also involve teaching assignments. You will contribute to the development of the department through research of high international quality. In your daily work, you will work closely with colleagues on your project, where you will receive supervision and guidance.
Your main tasks will consist of:
- Independent research of high international quality, including publication and grant writing.
- Perform research within the inflammation and cardiometabolic disease field.
- Collection, processing and analysis of biopsy material and other biological samples.
- Help in the organization of a biobank.
- Work in a translational research setting involving clinical trials and patients.
- Help in the coordination of clinical trials, including help to obtain ethical approval, clinical trial registration, GDPR compliance and consent.
- Participate in patient recruitment.
- Help in the supervision of undergraduate and graduate students.
- Help in the organization of the laboratory and relevant meetings.
- Present our work at national and international meetings, conferences, or workshops.
- Perform bioinformatics analysis, e.g. Next Generation Sequencing analyses and computational analyses of clinical datasets.
You will report to the Head of Department of Biomedicine.
Your competences
You have academic qualifications at PhD level, preferably within one or more of the following areas: isolation and culture of primary cells, including microvascular endothelial cells; molecular biology techniques and standard methods in biochemistry, including ELISAs, immunoblot analyses; advanced microscopy and methods in immunocytochemical staining and immunohistochemistry; execution of health tests, such as measurement of maximal oxygen consumption, DXA and/or MRI scanning, blood samples, ultrasound. Experience in working with patients in clinical trials as well as their ethical approval is desirable.
As a person, you are ambitious, take ownership and possess good communication and interpersonal skills. We expect you to be fluent in oral and written English.

Terms of employment
- Appointment as a postdoc requires academic qualifications at PhD level.
- Further information on the appointment procedure can be found in the Ministerial Order on the Appointment of Academic Staff at Universities.
- The appointment is in accordance with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations (Akademikerne).
- Remuneration is in accordance with the above, and the Salary agreement catalogue for staff at Health.
- The yearly base salary for a fulltime postdoc is between DKK 484.214,84 and DKK 538.720,20 depending on the years of working experience after achieved MSc degree. The base salary includes a position related supplement and pension (17.1 %). Additional supplement(s) for special qualifications can be negotiated. Authorisation supplemement(s) will be granted, if relevant for the position. Your local eligible trade union representative at Aarhus University negotiates your salary on your behalf.
- Researchers recruited from abroad are offered a special researcher tax scheme with a lower tax rate.
