The Department of Dentistry and Oral Health at the Faculty of Health at Aarhus University invites applications for one or more positions as Assistant Professor or Tenure-Track Assistant Professor per 1 May 2024 or as soon as possible thereafter. The position(s) are fixed-term full-time positions.

This is an open call and applicants from all orofacial/dental disciplines and interdisciplinary applicants of relevance are most welcome to apply.

The Department of Dentistry and Oral Health

As Assistant Professor at Department of Dentistry and Oral Health, you will be employed at an internationally recognized department with research in orofacial and dental health and disease and education of students to prevent and treat diseases and promote health in the population. We have an inspiring international research environment focusing on orofacial health as an integrated part of general health. We cover all educations in the orofacial/dental field, divided into four main professions: dentist, dental hygienist and clinical dental technician with unique opportunity to create synergies between the programs providing team-based health care to society. At the department, we have about 300 employees and 700 students, and our collaboration is based on respect, trust and recognition. Your job responsibilities

As Assistant Professor at the Department of Dentistry and Oral Health your primary tasks will be research and research-based teaching. You will teach and supervise students at Bachelor’s and Master’s level, and you will contribute to the academic development of the department through research of high international quality and academic citizenship. In your daily work, you will work closely with both Danish and international colleagues. The position of Assistant Professor is a career development position in which you will receive supervision and pedagogical upgrading.

Your main tasks will consist of:

  • Independent research of high international quality, including publication in top international journals.
  • Teaching, guidance and examination of Bachelor’s and Master's degree students, as well as possibly supervision of PhD students.
  • Contribution to attracting external research funding.
You will report to the Department’s Section Heads of relevance.

Your competences

You have independent research-related qualifications at a high international level. You are a clear communicator and you have some degree of experience of supervision and teaching at Bachelor’s and Master's degree level. Completed pedagogical courses in supervision or similar will be a plus, as will experience with the establishment of PhD courses and external research collaborations. You see opportunities in collaborating with the existing strong research groups at Aarhus University.

As a person, you have good interpersonal skills, are helpful and take co-responsibility for contributing to and ensuring that we maintain a good work environment

We expect you to be fluent in oral and written English. International applicants are expected to learn Danish, and Aarhus University arranges Danish language courses. If DDS background then Danish authorisation and permission to work independently as a dentist is expected within 4 years of employment. The process

The tenure track position starts out with appointment as assistant professor with a view to permanent employment as an associated professor.

Permanent tenure as an associate professor is conditional upon you being assessed as qualified as such no later than 6 months before the expected transition to associate professor at the latest. In order to be assessed as qualified for an associate professor position, you must meet these academic criteria.

You will be appointed a supervisor by Head of Department and evaluation meetings will take place at least every half year.
