The Department of Public Health at Faculty of Health at Aarhus University invites applications for one or two positions as Assistant Professor in the field of Biostatistics as per 1 June 2024 or as soon as possible thereafter. The position is a fixed-term full-time position for four years.

As an Assistant Professor at the Department of Public Health, you will be part of an ambitious and internationally recognised department, where we work together to promote public health through research into areas that can prevent, treat and alleviate disease. We collaborate nationally and internationally, and we share our knowledge with citizens, decision-makers, business and industry, practitioners and other researchers.

The department contributes to or is responsible for teaching medicine, health sciences, sports science, optometry and nursing. At the Department of Public Health, you will have approx. 200 colleagues, including ninety academic staff members and a corresponding number of PhD students. We work closely with one another across different fields of study and prioritise a healthy work environment. The general tone among colleagues is informal. Your job responsibilities


As Assistant Professor of Biostatistics your primary tasks will be research and research-based teaching. You will teach and supervise students at Bachelor’s and Master’s level, and you will contribute to the development of the department through research of the highest international quality. In your daily work, you will work closely with both Danish and international colleagues. The position of Assistant Professor is a career development position in which you will receive supervision and pedagogical upgrading.

Your main tasks will consist of:

  • Independent research of high international quality, including scientific publication.
  • Teaching, guidance and examination of Bachelor’s and Master's degree students as well as supervision of PhD students.
  • Contribution towards attracting external research funding.
  • Collaborate with relevant national and international research environments.
  • Consultant as part of the faculty’s Biostatistical Advisory Service.

You will report to the Head of Department.


Your competences


You have independent research-related qualifications at a high international level. You are a clear communicator and you have some degree of experience of supervision and teaching at Bachelor’s and Master's degree level. We draw attention to completed pedagogical courses in supervision or similar, as well as experience with the establishment of PhD courses and external research collaborations. We expect you to have a solid background in theoretical statistics, for example a master's degree and/or a PhD degree within theoretical statistics. It is an advantage if you have had prior experience as a biostatistical consultant within health science.

As a person, you have good interpersonal skills, are inclusive and team-oriented and able to contribute to a good work environment.

We expect you to be fluent in oral and written English. International applicants are expected to learn Danish, and Aarhus University arranges Danish teaching.

In order to be assessed as qualified for an Assistant Professor position, you must meet these academic criteria.
