Postdoctoral opportunity in environmental engineering focusing on reducing agricultural emissions through field and lab research

Join a dynamic and hands-on research team investigating greenhouse gas and ammonia emission from manure systems. The work combines field experiments, laboratory analysis, and modelling to produce science that can change practice and reduce the climate and environmental footprint of agriculture. We are searching for a postdoctoral researcher for a 2-year full-time position, starting 1 November, 2026.

Job description

We invite applications for a 2-year postdoctoral position. The successful candidate will lead field campaigns and data analysis to quantify ammonia and greenhouse gas emissions after fertilization. The role combines fieldwork, laboratory assessment, operation and maintenance of gas measurement systems, and integration of results into emission models and mitigation assessments.

Key responsibilities:

  • Design and conduct field experiments.
  • Operate and maintain gas measurement equipment and flux chambers.
  • Process, analyze, and visualize large data sets using Matlab, R, Pyton, or similar tools.
  • Contribute to scientific papers, project reports, and stakeholder outreach.
  • Collaborate with farmer, technicians, and reserach colleagues.


Your profile
  • Applicants should hold a PhD in a relevant field (e.g. environmental sciences, chemical or environmental engineering, or agroecology).
  • Proven experience with gas flux measurements and instrumentation (e.g. chamber methods, or other techniques).
  • Proven experience with validation of flux measurement methods (e.g., chamber methods, or other techniques).
  • Strong data processing skills and experience with MatLab, R, Pyton, or similar.
  • Experience with planning and executing short and long-term field measurement campaigns.
  • Experience with managing other personnel in connection with execution of field measurement campaigns.
  • Good written and spoken English.
  • Valid driving license.

Department of Biological and Chemical Engineering was established on January 1, 2021, in connection with Aarhus University’s reorganization of the engineering area. The department employs around 175 people and is responsible for research and education within the department’s scientific areas. We educate both Bachelors and Master of Science in Engineering and around 825 students are enrolled in our study programs. Furthermore, we also offer an ambitious PhD program. Our PhD students have high academic ambitions and deliver high-quality results for both the private and the public sectors.
At the Department of Biological and Chemical Engineering, focus is on living systems, the biology of organisms, efficient production, and transformation of chemicals, materials and energy. Formalities and salary range
Technical Sciences refers to the Ministerial Order on the Appointment of Academic Staff at Danish Universities under the Danish Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation.

Salary depends on seniority as agreed between the Danish Ministry of Taxation and the Confederation of Professional Associations.
