Academic and technical position in neuron cell biology research at Aarhus University

A newly established international collaborative research project in mechanisms in Parkinson’s disease (ERDYS, endoplasmic reticulum dysfunction in the pathophysiology of synucleopathies) will be initiated at the Department of Biomedicine & Dandrite. The Department of Biomedicine at Faculty of Health at Aarhus University we are inviting applications for a position as an academic and technical employee within the area of ultrastructural neuron cell biology as per 1 February 2025 or as soon as possible thereafter. The position is a full-time event-restricted position, for 4 years.

The event is defined by the ERDYS collaborative project focuses on the pathophysiology of alpha-synuclein aggregation in axons and nerve terminals and its role in neuronal dysfunctions and the progression of Parkinson’s disease in neuronal and in vivo models. Partners of the project are Professors Poul Henning Jensen and Fulvio Reggiori at Department of Biomedicine & Dandrite, and the the Associate Professor Marijn Kuijpers at the Donders Institute for Brain, Cognition and Behaviour at Radboud University, The Netherlands. The ultrastructural studies of ERDYS will be carried out in the laboratory of Associate Professor Muriel Mari. The technician will be embedded in the group of Associate Professor Muriel Mari. The project is expected to be finalized by April 2028.

Your job responsibilities


As an academic and technical emplyee, your primary task will be to carry out supervised research projects in the relation to the ERDYS collaborative project. You contribute to the maintenance of the laboratory organization and standard equipment. In your daily work, you have a close interaction with competent colleagues.

Your main tasks will also consist of:

  • Mostly perform electron microscopy experiments from sample preparation to the complete sample analysis.
  • Involved in the laboratory organization and in the maintenance standard equipment.
  • Active participation, including presentations, to the group meetings as well as those of ERDYS.
  • Work in close collaboration with the other participants to ERDYS.

You will report to the Associate Prof. Muriel Mari.


Your competences


You have a background within cell biology preferably with advanced knowledge in intracellular trafficking and/or autophagy. Experience in electron microscopy (from sample preparation to analysis) will be mandatory. Supplement with specific expectations for the position. A plus is being familiar with cell culture. You must also have good computer skills, have flexible working hours and high degree of independency. You are motivated, precise, meticulous, and well-organized (lab and time management), willing to learn and/or develop new electron microscopy approaches.

As a person, you have good interpersonal skills, are inclusive and team-oriented and able to contribute to a good work environment.

We expect you to be fluent in oral and written English.
