Academic position in organic and medicinal chemistry at Aarhus University

The Department of Chemistry is seeking applications for an academic candidate (AC-TAP). The position includes scientific, administrative and teaching tasks at the Department of Chemistry within organic and medicinal chemistry.

The intended start date for this appointment is November 1st 2026, or as soon as possible thereafter.


Job description

The candidate is expected to contribute to:

  • Basic maintenance, user training, and management of the Advanced Molecular Analyses Platform (AdMAP) within organic and medicinal chemistry at Dept. of Chemistry. Currently, the facility includes three main instruments: A Bruker 500 MHz NMR spectrometer (incoming), a Bruker 400 MHz spectrometer and a Bruker Impact qTOF LC-MS/MS system. Another LC-MS/MS system is currently being acquired. Additionally, several advanced chromatography systems, such as size exclusion chromatography, are also part of the facility.
  • Assistance and support of users in various aspects of LC-MS/MS analysis and method development of different samples, including small molecules and biomolecules (peptides, proteins, nucleic acids, carbohydrates).
  • Assistance and support of users in need of conducting sophisticated NMR experiments, e.g for structural elucidation.
  • Management of the booking system and assistance with data backup, and data distribution.
  • Participate in teaching relevant laboratory courses.
  • Various tasks related to the Department of Chemistry.

The candidate will be part of a technical team with other AC-TAPs, who support research in organic and medicinal chemistry at the Department, and who shares some of the daily duties in support, maintenance and continuous development of the suite of instruments in the field of organic and medicinal chemistry. The candidate will also dynamically interact and spar with other AC-TAPs with dedicated technical expertise within NMR or MS.

Your profile
Candidates are expected to have a solid background in analyses of organic molecules, including experience with LC-MS/MS and NMR at an advanced level. Additionally, experience working also with LC-MS/MS-based analysis of biomolecules (e.g. peptides and proteins) is beneficial. A thorough technical understanding of MS-based analyses and how to optimize for different types of molecules as well as prior experience in maintaining LC-MS/MS systems is beneficial.

The candidate should hold a Ph.D. in organic chemistry, medicinal chemistry or a related field.

Formalities and salary range
