The Department of Economics and Business Economics at Aarhus BSS, Aarhus University, invites applications for positions as full professor in the field of economics and business economics. The professorship is a full-time and permanent position starting on 1 May 2027 or as soon as possible subject to mutual agreement.
The department conducts research and teaching within economics and business economics covering fields such as microeconomics, macroeconomics, finance, econometrics, business intelligence and operations research.
Job description
The successful candidate is expected to contribute significantly to the research, teaching and general academic environment of the department and to promote the overall strategy of the department and Aarhus BSS. You are expected to teach and supervise students at Bachelor’s, Master’s and PhD level and to carry out research of the highest international standards, which contributes to developing the academic field of economics and business economics.
Also, the successful candidate is expected to attract external research funding, to develop public and/or business relations, to contribute to knowledge exchange and dissemination of research results, and to take on relevant administrative duties. The department is international and has more than 30 nationalities represented as department members. Non-Danish applicants are expected to learn Danish within the first few years of employment.
Your qualifications
To qualify for a Full Professorship, the applicant must demonstrate an ability to take on a leadership role in research collaboration, teaching development and administrative duties. The applicant should have teaching and research experience for a number of years in a tenured position as associate professor (or similar).
The applicant must conduct original research within the fields of economic and business economics, including related interdisciplinary research, and must be able to demonstrate significant contributions to developments and scientific impact within these fields. Applicants are expected to have a well-documented international research profile with emphasis on publications in leading and well-respected peer-reviewed journals of the relevant field. The applicant must have produced a significant body of publications in terms of quantity and quality. As a guideline, the successful candidate has at least one publication per research year (accounting for leave periods) and in total at least 10-15 publications in good peer-reviewed journals, among which a portion must be in top general interest or top field journals. Top general interest and top field journals carry greater weight and generally quality is preferred to and compensates for quantity. Candidates should show research momentum; working papers, and papers submitted to journals and papers documented to be in a revise-resubmit stage can be considered as well.
The applicant must demonstrate independence and research leadership, e.g., through attracting external funding and supervising young researchers and having a variety of co-authors.
Equally important, the applicant must demonstrate high quality teaching as well as supervision at all levels including PhD, and it will be desirable that the candidate has experience with management or development of study programs. The quality of teaching should be documented by positive teaching evaluations, teaching awards etc. A teaching portfolio should be submitted with the application where didactical/pedagogical competencies, experiences, and visions are carefully described. Any experience with course and education development should be described as well.
Permanent employment as professor at Aarhus BSS requires completion of the supervision course provided by Centre for Educational Development at Aarhus University. If you have not completed the course before commencement of employment, continued employment will be conditional on completion of the courses within a two-year period.

Terms of employment
The appointment is made in accordance with the Memorandum on Job Structure for Academic Staff at Danish Universities as well as the circular on the Collective Agreement for Academics Employed by the State (in Danish). The job content and qualification requirements are described in further detail in the Ministerial Order on the Appointment of Academic Staff at Universities. Salary and terms of employment are in accordance with the collective agreement for academics employed by the state. You will be appointed as a professor at salary scale 37.

The evaluation process
Shortlisting is applied. This means that an appointment committee (assisted by the chair of the assessment committee) advises the head of department on which applicants possess the qualifications, competencies, experience and potential described above under “Your qualifications”, notably in fields with specific departmental research and teaching needs and in accordance with the faculty’s criteria and guidelines for evaluating candidates to permanent positions.
Through the shortlisting process, the head of department selects the applicants who will receive a thorough assessment of their professional qualifications. The applicants will then be assessed by an expert assessment committee. All applicants will be notified whether or not their application has been shortlisted and forwarded to the assessment committee for evaluation. Shortlisted applicants will be informed about the composition of the committee.
