Aarhus University's Department of Geoscience is seeking a motivated and talented academic employee to join the Danish Student Cubesat Program (DISCO). The successful candidate will be responsible for, together with the students, advancing the development of an open-source cubesat platform that enables affordable cubesat construction based on the PyCubed platform.

The position are available from August 1 2024 or as soon possible hereafter. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Cubesat platform development: enhance the existing PyCubed platform by designing simple and functional structures and solar panels. This involves utilizing additive manufacturing techniques to create lightweight yet robust structures and efficient solar panels compatible with PyCubed.

  • LoRa Ground Station Network: establish and maintain a network of LoRa ground stations with dual-use applications. These stations will not only receive data from Cubesats but also support environmental monitoring and communication in remote areas, thereby improving communication capabilities and expanding the use cases for Cubesat missions.

  • Cybersecurity: focus on enhancing cybersecurity for the open-source platform by developing and implementing robust encryption methods, secure authentication processes and regular security updates to protect data and communications from potential threats.

Qualifications:

  • A degree in geoscience, physics, engineering or a related field.

  • Experience with hardware and software development, preferably in the context of satellite technology or similar fields.

  • Familiarity with cybersecurity practices and principles.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.

Working hours:
The employment will be full-time until end of December 2024. From January 2025 until the employment ends in July 2027, the position will be on half time.


Formalities and salary range

Salary and terms as agreed between the Danish Ministry of Taxation and the Confederation of Professional Unions.
