The Department of Biomedicine at Faculty of Health at Aarhus University invites applications for a position as Postdoc in the field of pancreatic cancer metabolism as per 1 March 2024 or as soon as possible thereafter. The position is a fixed-term full-time position for 2 years.
The department of Biomedicine prioritises diversity and a good work environment, as this is a prerequisite for groundbreaking research. In a diverse and international research environment, dedicated employees are looking to generate new knowledge within biomedical research areas such as infection and inflammation, membranes, neuroscience and personalised medicine. The Department of Biomedicine provides research-based teaching of the highest quality and is responsible for a large part of the medical degree programme. Academic staff contribute to the teaching. English is the preferred language in the laboratory, at meetings and at seminars. The department employs approx. 500 people from all over the world, and they make use of the department's modern laboratory-, core- and animal facilities. About the research project
Our lab is focused on understanding the rewired metabolism of pancreatic cancer (PDAC) cells and how it contributes to tumor growth and drug resistance. Using in vitro and in vivo PDAC models, we recently described metabolic vulnerabilities in nucleotide synthesis (PMID: 30470748) and iron metabolism to support mitochondrial respiration (PMID: 35771492). In addition to the rewired metabolism in cancer cells, metabolic cross-talk with elements of the tumor microenvironment (e.g. immune populations), can also support PDAC growth and drug response. Using cell culture-based studies, proteomics, and mouse models of PDAC, this project will explore how inhibition of metabolic processes can interfere with cancer cell growth while modulating anti-tumoral immune responses that could facilitate combinatorial approaches with immune modulators.
Your job responsibilities
In your daily work, you will work closely with other members of the laboratory and with collaborators at the institute. As Postdoc in pancreatic cancer metabolism your position is primarily research-based but may also involve teaching assignments.
Your main tasks will consist of:
Independent research of high international quality, including contributing to the preparation of manuscripts, and ideally fellowship applications.
In vitro work including cell culture (e.g cancer and immune cell culture/co-culture techniques), analysis of gene and protein expression in cell and tissues (e.g. WB, IHC, Flow citometry).
Animal experimentation, including tumor cell injection, dosing and tissue harvests.
Assisting in proteomics sample preparation and data analysis.
Help in the supervision of a junior scientist in the lab.
Present our work at meetings, conferences, or workshops.
You will report to Assistant Professor Naiara Santana Codina
Your competences
As a person you are highly motivated, inclusive, independent yet willing to collaborate with other team members and eager to develop a novel research program. We expect you to be fluent in oral and written English and possess good communication and interpersonal skills.
You hold a PhD degree in molecular biology, biochemistry or closely related topic.
You have extensive cell culture experience (cancer cells, macrophages, co-culture techniques).
You have experience working with mouse models of cancer e.g. tumo inoculation, measurements, dosing).
You have a proven scientific track-record preferably within the field of cancer biology.
Experience with flow citometry and data analysis is desirable.
In order to be assessed as qualified for a Postdoc position, you must meet these academic criteria.
Shortlisting will be used.
