Applications are invited for a fulltime two-year research assistant position in Daan van Aalten laboratory at the Department of Molecular, biology and Genetics, Aarhus University, Denmark.
 

Expected start date and duration of employment

This is a two-year position from January 1st 2024.
This is a fixed-term position to end on December 31st 2025. 
 

Job description

You will be part of an international and dynamic team and contribute to the characterisation of new genetically modified mice lines.
 

  • You will be in charge of the mice colony management.
  • You will be responsible of the genotyping and sequencing of the whole animal mice lines.
  • You will be responsible for the redaction of all the animal experiment permits, breeding and project plans and serve as a liaison with the animal staff and veterinarians and Danish regulatory agency (Dyreforsøgstilsynet).
  • Performing variated behavioral tests, tissue and body fluid collection and substance administration.
  • These activities will be in close collaboration with the animal unit, the Daan Van Aalten laboratory and other services (workshop, IT and HS).
  • You will be working closely and report to the postdoctoral researchers in charge of the projects
  • You can be implicated in other laboratory tasks including western blotting, histology and tissue culture.


Your profile

Applicants should hold a Master’s Degree in biology, neuroscience or similar.

Requirements:
  • Animal experimentation license (FELASA category C, EU functions A, B and D and Danish legislation).
  • Good knowledge in mouse physiology, animal welfare, 3Rs, European and Danish legislation.
  • Strong experience in mice colony management.
  • Strong experience with mice model, handling, administration (IV, IP, SC, PO, IM), sampling (tail, saphenous vein, submandibular) and tissue collection.
  • Flexibility in working hours, including weekends depending on the studies
  • Experienced in behavioural studies (compulsive disorders, coordination & locomotion, memory and anxiety tests) and early development assessment in juvenile animals.
  • Good knowledge in animal video tracking system (i.e. Any-Maze software) including camera settings, protocol conception, data analysis and troubleshooting.
  • Previous experience in the use and data analysis of DVC System from Techniplast is an advantage
Candidates should have the following personal skills:
  • Excellent interpersonal and collaborative skills.
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Excellent attention to details.
  • A methodological approach to work, and exceptional organisational skills.
  • Ability to work independently, with limited direction, and within a team environment.
  • Fluency in English (spoken and written). Good knowledge of Danish is an advantage.

The postdoc will be affiliated to the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics.

The Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics is part of the Faculty of Natural Sciences, Aarhus University and comprises research within the areas of Plant Molecular Biology, Neurobiology, RNA Biology and Innovation, Protein Science, Cellular Health, Intervention and Nutrition. There are currently 75 full time scientific staff and 95 PhD students. The department is responsible for two educations: Molecular Biology and Molecular Medicine with a yearly uptake of 160 students in total.

Short-listing is used. This means that after the deadline for applications – and with the assistance from the assessment committee chairman, and the assessment committee if necessary, – the head of department selects the candidates to be evaluated. The selection is made on the basis of an assessment of who of the candidates are most relevant considering the requirements of the advertisement. All applicants will be notified within 6 weeks whether or not their applications have been sent to an expert assessment committee for evaluation. The selected applicants will be informed about the composition of the committee and will receive his/her assessment. Once the recruitment process is completed a final letter of rejection is sent to the deselected applicants.

Formalities and salary range

Natural Sciences refers to the Ministerial Order on the Appointment of Academic Staff at Danish Universities under the Danish Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation.

Appointment shall be in accordance with the collective labour agreement between the Danish Ministry of Taxation and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. Salary depends on seniority as agreed between the Danish Ministry of Taxation and the Confederation of Professional Associations.
